Autumn Almanac

Fall is truly my favorite season. I love the contrast between cool crisp evenings and mornings with warmish afternoons. The brilliant hues of the leaves changing, with vibrant vermillion and glittering gold forming a backdrop of renewal.
Some people consider spring to be the season of new life. For me, it's fall. The back to school phenomena entices me. I still like buying my own supplies new pens and post it's and file folders. I guess I'm still an overgrown kid on many levels.

I made a ritual out of unpacking my fall clothes. In the spring, my beloved sweaters would be packed away into a cedar lined box, to keep them fresh. It would be like Christmas morning, when I would open it up and savory that aroma, as it infused my senses.
The colors and crisp air would ( and still does) entice me onto the trail. There is nothing more grounding than a long walk in the woods. My favorite poet, Robert Frost (who taught at my college) wrote:

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth

[That is the best analogy of my life as well]

Choosing the right path, pondering the direction...leaving nothing to chance.

In autumn, the possibilities are endless.

  1. I agree, love the autumn season, with all the favorite colors and circle of life. Even in death, they show beauty and grace.

  2. I don't do well in heat and I struggle with allergies in winter, so spring and fall are my seasons.

  4. Beautiful. I love the idea of packing fall away so that it's a gift when you open it up again. I might have to try that.

Stopping by from SITS. Have a great day.
