I've had an issue with "clutter" for years. I grew up amongst hoarders. My grandmother was a very nest, tidy one. My mother likes piles. I have a lot of "hidden" clutter. I have stuff, just out of view. Lots, and lots and lots of stuff.
I'm What's a girl to do??
As part of my journey towards simplicity, I am beginning to pare down what I've got. I really have too much stuff. Everywhere I turn in my house, there's stuff. Stuff that's not getting loved, because there's too much. I did my fair share to help keep the economy humming over the years. I've got the credit card debt and a house bursting at its seams to prove it.
Now I'm moving in the opposite direction.
I'm getting rid of stuff.
I spend a lot of time caring for the stuff I've currently got. Apparently, I'm not alone based on the number of websites, blogs, Facebook groups and Pinterest boards. My favorite system is Fly Lady, because even of I'm not completely doing it, it has made a huge difference in my life and thinking. I still need to tackle the shame monster. I have a lot of shame related to the money I've spent on things, shame over not being a better homemaker...I could go on and on.
But it's not serving any other purpose other than me getting upset, angry and depressed.
Instead, I'm taking stock and developing a plan. Since it's a new year, and on the frigid northern plains, there's not much to do, I'm kick starting my cleaning frenzy. I searched Pinterst and found this great 30 day challenge perfect for January.
(I know January has 31 days, but seriously New Year's Day doesn't count to start a plan!). This will take care of the physical clutter. I need to work on the mental/emotional/financial clutter too.
