America lost a great hero yesterday. Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, passed away due to post surgical complications. Astronomy has always been an interest of mine. Looking up into the night sky, one has to be in awe of all that is out there.
Neil Armstrong was minted a hero in a bygone era. He loomed large in the age of Camelot and Mad Men, just as flower power, anti government sentiment and Woodstock were taking hold.
It was before my time. The Big Man was just a few months old when the eagle landed in the sea of tranquility. Both of us have second hand memories of it. The space program in our conscious memory was the space shuttle, now retired. Our son knows the mars rover. I have the NASA app on my phone; we visit it regularly. Little Man & I follow the curiosity rover in twitter.
I can tell you where I was for both space shuttle disasters, and when the 1st rover landed on mars. At one time I wanted to be like Sally Ride, who also recently passed away and soar into the heavens.
Many a child wanted to be an astronaut.
All this because of the first man who walked on the moon. Anything was possible from that point on. Not only did America come together that day, but the universe became a smaller place.
Godspeed, Mr. Armstrong.

It's such a shame!
Love the title of this post. I'm still in shock, it just doesn't seem real. I thought he would live forever.
