I think I've been on a non stop binge since Halloween. It has been the first holiday season in 3 years that I'm not recovering from surgery. As a result, I've been baking and cooking up a storm. I'm still recovering from a broken leg, and very slowly getting back to exercising. I've over indulged with rich, creamy decadent foods. I have not drunk enough water. I feel very sluggish.
Every holiday season, between Christmas and New Years, I try to limit the damage of ho-ho-ho'ing for 3 months. The best way for me is to detox. What is that? It's a chance for my body to recover from bad eating and flushing out salt and toxins. I'm not recommending anything crazy, because that doesn't work and may in fact do more damage.
The most important thing I can do for my body is to increase the amount of water I drink. In fact, I've noticed that if I drink lemon infused water, I feel better faster. I also limit my salt intake and up the number of fruits and veggies I eat. I also make an effort to make healthier choices overall.
Another key component is upping the amount I move. It's not rocket science. Burn more calories than I take in=less bloating and better fitting in my clothes. I do a more gentle yoga practice every day, because it helps me get more in tune with my body. I make sure I get enough rest. I do things I enjoy. It's about balance going into the new year.
I am a spa junkie. I like my lotions, potions and scrubs. I will soak my feet. I will slather on the lotion and make my skin glow. I will do an at home facial. There are a gazillion ways to make my skin look good! The best thing however-lots of water and a healthy diet.
Women of God can never be like women of the world. The world has enough women who are tough; we need women who are tender. There are enough women who are coarse; we need women who are kind. There are enough women who are rude; we need women who are refined. We have enough women of fame and fortune; we need more women of faith. We have enough greed; we need more goodness. We have enough vanity; we need more virtue. We have enough popularity; we need more purity. Margaret D. Nadauld
