It's the start of a new year. There are 363 days ahead, full of promise and adventure. Magazines and websites promise to help you organize your life. Commercials offer you lose weight quick schemes. I don't make resolutions, I set goals-and I do that in May, around my birthday. Resolutions set you up for failure, because they are usually grandiose, sweeping changes, that will be forgotten by February.
I'm not being idle, however. Instead of looking at things that I want to take away, I'm looking at what I can add to my life. One of my favorite scrap-goddesses, Ali Edwards has a concept of One Little Word. I'm not taking her class or endorsing it, because I'm so far behind on my scrapping to start with-but I like the concept of having a word provide a framework for my year.
I've heard that still, small voice nagging me. It started a while back, with the thought that I'm stressed. I'm going at a breakneck pace, without an end in sight. However, there was something missing...
Like my pal Becki from WhippyCake , I needed some direction. I thought about what was sorely lacking in my life.
Busyness.
Stress
No...joy.
That happiness that sustains you in the pit. The type of infectious happiness that you see when a baby laughs. The sense of awe and wonder I see in my son on a daily basis.
No matter what.
There's a level of excitement and enthusiasm about life that I've obviously been missing. I've been filling my life with busyness, and not focusing on my true passions. I needed to go through that in order to find where my joy is in life. n
My family.
My hobbies.
Following my bliss.
Everything needs to follow the framework of JOY. What does this do to enhance my joy, or the joy of others? How will this make mine-or someone else's life-better? Where can I spread joy? How can I find joy in everyday life?
How can 2013 be filled with joy?
Women of God can never be like women of the world. The world has enough women who are tough; we need women who are tender. There are enough women who are coarse; we need women who are kind. There are enough women who are rude; we need women who are refined. We have enough women of fame and fortune; we need more women of faith. We have enough greed; we need more goodness. We have enough vanity; we need more virtue. We have enough popularity; we need more purity. Margaret D. Nadauld
