Blue Hawaii

Many years ago, I went island hopping in Hawaii.

Unfortunately, it was a long time ago, so my pictures have been lost to the ages. I loved my time in the islands. It's such a magical place and one day I'd love to go back. I do, in my dreams.
The scents and sights of the islands have become a big part of my psyche.

One of my favorite treats was shave ice, which is not the same as a snow cone. Shaved ice is shaved ice, a snow cone is more crushed ice. When we were in Utah earlier this month, I introduced my son to awesome, authentic shaved ice.

It was love at first taste.
When we came home, it was a summer necessity to get a shave ice maker.
I am so glad I did.

We have it a few times a week, and I make it as a treat for the Little Man and his friends.
One of our favorite desserts is a double dip, which is shaved ice and vanilla ice cream.

It's super easy to make your own syrup too.

1 packet kool aid
1 1/2 c granulated sugar or sugar substitute
2 c water

Mix water and sugar together and stir until dissolved. Stir in kool aid. Pour into a squirt bottle and store in the fridge.
