A few of my friends went to see Soulcrate & Macklemore in concert last night. It apparently was THE hottest ticket in town. (You can check out pictures here http://www.argusleader.com/apps/pbcs.dll/gallery?Avis=DF&Dato=20130405&Kategori=NEWS&Lopenr=405006&Ref=PH&nclick_check=1) I, instead, wound up curled up on the couch watching the inside of my eyelids. I've realized, that at least in this case, I'm no longer "cool".
Not like that's a bad thing.
I'm a 40 something mom. I work. I manage a home, and take care of my family. Being cool doesn't really fit into the plan most of the time.
I do have cool experiences & moments every now and zen. I have days when I look awesome. But that's not what's important anymore.
My first and foremost focus is my family and my faith.
It's a struggle to keep all the balls up in the air that I'm juggling.
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Romans 12:2
I try to not get caught up in the whole patty perfect worldview. It's very easy to base your self worth on what others think of yourself. Being a wife and mom is not always valued by society (even though it should be), and it's sometimes hard to stick to your guns about it. I'm not a big fan of media portraying families as being sarcastic and sniping to each other (Everybody Loves Raymond is a perfect example), because that's what gets modeled. I'm never going to look like a Victoria's Secret model, because that's not how God made me. I'm not going to change my core values because they are at odds with popular culture, either.
Guess that means I'm not cool.
Women of God can never be like women of the world. The world has enough women who are tough; we need women who are tender. There are enough women who are coarse; we need women who are kind. There are enough women who are rude; we need women who are refined. We have enough women of fame and fortune; we need more women of faith. We have enough greed; we need more goodness. We have enough vanity; we need more virtue. We have enough popularity; we need more purity. Margaret D. Nadauld
