I do love watching the bridal shows-everything from my Big Redneck Wedding to Say Yes to the Dress to Bridezillas. I did things very differently when it was my special day. Little girls start planning their weddings when they are like, 5. My template was Princess Diana. For years, she was my favorite style icon, and there were some things similar with my wedding and hers stylistically. At one point I wanted to get married in Memory Grove, and then have my wedding reception at La Caille. Then, when I was a little older, I wanted to get married on the beach, at sunset. Finally, I got my dream ceremony at my church, to my best friend. That is not to say that there weren’t any issues getting to that point.
First and foremost, my bridal party did a great job keeping me sane and planning a terrific shower for me. Secondly, I was highly organized. I had my planner book, and it was my best friend during the planning process. I knew what I wanted, and sometimes not everyone shared my vision or wanted to make my vision a reality, and for the most part it was a dream come true. Thirdly, I had some crafting skills, so I was able to make things that I otherwise would not have had as part of my wedding. For example, I made the reception centerpieces, which otherwise would have been out of our budgetary reach. I also made our wedding favors, instead of buying them.
There were a lot of tears along the way, and there were things that were said that came out all wrong. I had a few hiccups in friendships because of weddings-theirs and mine-that time has resolved.
So many folks put the emphasis on planning their wedding and not their marriage. Both my husband & I came into this commitment knowing that we were in for the long haul. There were some people who didn’t think (or on some levels, secretly hoped) that we wouldn’t last.
For our wedding readings, I chose a non-traditional Old Testament lesson from the Book of Ruth. It however, was a personal statement on our relationship and marriage-we were leaving our families of origin and joining together as one new family, and whither thou goest, I will follow.
Women of God can never be like women of the world. The world has enough women who are tough; we need women who are tender. There are enough women who are coarse; we need women who are kind. There are enough women who are rude; we need women who are refined. We have enough women of fame and fortune; we need more women of faith. We have enough greed; we need more goodness. We have enough vanity; we need more virtue. We have enough popularity; we need more purity. Margaret D. Nadauld

Love is in the Air
Love is in the air! I admit I love weddings. There is nothing more spectacular and genuine than seeing two people deeply in love on their wedding day. That is unabashed affection. I can picture exactly how my husband stared at me on our special day, and I still get goosebumps from it!
Planning a wedding is extremely stressful. I know, I have been there, done that. And unlike many of my peers, I did my wedding without the help of a planner. In fact, I did mine in the dark ages before blogs and social media even! Its amazing that I was able to pull it off working full time in a demanding job managing an architectural firm as well as working part time as a specialist for a major book store chain PLUS volunteer work and school. Yes, I was crazy but a little bit younger, and I did have some phenomenal folks that helped me pull it off.

Father
Happy Father's Day to all the amazing dads out there!
I want to wish a happy father's day to those who filled the father role in my life:
My godfather, who received a childhood's worth of father's day cards and school made gifts. Who was there when I needed a father for events at school.
Thank you.
My stepfather, who helped guide me through those wonderful teenage years.
My father in law, who made me feel like I was part of the family from day one of the Big Man & I being a "couple".
Most of all, my Heavenly Father, who has always made me feel like a princess
I know the wonders of unconditional love because of Him
And always feel safe.
I am so lucky because the Big Man is an amazing father.
He truly is #1 dad in our eyes
He is a great teacher
He is kind and caring
He is talented
And we have lots of fun together!

I'm Ok
I love, love, LOVE Mindy Gledhill. Her music is a Sunday kind of music: quiet, peaceful, relaxing. Its also a reminder that I need to take time for a Sabbath. Its a reminder that I need to shut things down and step away from it all.
Ive had a rough few weeks, but sometimes you need the valleys to appreciate the view from the mountain top.
Some things that I have done in the past few weeks:
I also have painted my nails a fascinating shade of bronze (not brown, but bronze)
I also spent an amazing evening teaching a group of teenagers about hunger and poverty. We did an activity baking muffins (divided into 3 teams 1st world, 2nd world and 3rd world) that we later brought to the Mission to serve their clientele. It was a great experience for the kids.
I went to an ordination.
I watched 6 of "my kids" swear an oath before God and congregation to get confirmed.
I took a nap.
I ate a lot of really good food.
I even ate chocolate ice cream. With rainbow sprinkles.
I watched a storm blow in on Friday. I prayed and wept for those who were affected by the tornados in the south.
I've decided I love cupcakes. Lots of them. More please
http://www.ohmycupcakes.com/
They are the best cupcakes in Sioux Falls, next to mine of course.
I also have fallen in love with http://whippycake.com/shop/bon-truffle/ Amazingly beautiful hair art. It makes me happy to have grown my hair a little longer again.
Its been rough for the last few weeks, but I'm realizing that I needed this darkness to see the light.
I realized that I need a Sabbath, to encourage myself to rest.
A book can't really do it for you, but it can guide you to what you need to rest.
I am a shameless, hopeless romantic. I love Keates, Blake and most of all, Lord Byron.
My faith in fairy tales was restored this past week with the royal wedding.
But I have my own Prince Charming:
Despite all the ups and downs, and inside outs, I'm ok.

Some things that I have done in the past few weeks:
- not eaten healthy (boo)
- not exercised (boo hiss)
- bought an amazing book: Women's Uncommon Prayers. A must read if you are a woman and lead an extraordinary life.
