Bad Aunt

Once upon a time, there was a very attractive, organized woman who felt in charge of her whole life. She thoughtfully remembered everyone’s birthdays and would send little care packages to family and friends. She would cut out articles from magazines that she thought those in her circle would appreciate or be interested in. She was so organized that she shopped for Christmas year round and everyone got the perfect gift.

Then she had a child. And her whole world turned upside down. Add to the stress and chaos of her daily life working full time.

So now, she is looking at ghosts of birthdays past-basically birthday presents wrapped and waiting to go to the post office. Everything is together and ready to be mailed, but yet the trip is unmade. She must have some sort of mental block or protest against the post office or something. Or maybe it’s the feeling of being overwhelmed by daily life and not having enough TIME to do anything it seems. So she ducks out of the real world by not living up to past reputation. Or something like that-it sounds good.

Actually, there will be a trip to the post office this week. The schedule has lessened due to days off from school and no activities because of it. I have no more excuses. I’ve probably scarred my dear nieces, nephews and grandparents because of my own personal whirlwind that they too have been swept up in. But I am promising-more myself than anything else-that things will get better. They HAVE to
