Valentine's Day

It's Valentine's Day and the snow keeps falling. Today there is a lot going on-Church, brunch, making a countdown to Easter poster with the little man, have our traditional red dinner. I also have some spa time planned for myself because I darn well deserve it and its Valentine's day! The other big thing I've got planned is to go to the library on the way home from church today-stuff to return and stuff to pick up.
The Little Man and I make a countdown to Easter poster each year. Purple poster board because purple is the color of Lent-the liturgical season we are going into this week. We use stickers, ribbon and other stuff to decorate it. Since Lent starts in February and this year Easter is in April-there's a lot of ground to cover (including St. Patrick's Day) and a lot of stuff to decorate. It's going to be fun and its so neat to see the evolution of the little man's artistic skills and his understanding of Lent. Today in Sunday school they are going to be burying the Alleluias. During the season of Lent, we don't use the word Alleluia in church (Alleluia means He is risen-and since Jesus has not yet risen-that comes on Easter Sunday) we don't use it.
Tonight we are having a red dinner for Valentine's day. Pasta with red sauce, red velvet cake and homemade chocolate. Tomorrow is cajun chicken, Tuesday we have the Shrove Tuesday pancake supper at church, Wednesday is Ash Wednesday and in our family our traditional supper is pizza, Thursday is chicken pot pie and Friday tuna noodle casserole (fish on Fridays!).
Its actually going to be a very crazy week in my life. I have a half day off tomorrow because the Little Man is home from school. I can get a bunch of housework done then-not like the house is in bad shape. Tuesday is the pancake supper at church, as well as the fact that I need to help set up for Ash Wednesday (I'm on Altar Guild duty this week). Thursday we have our foster parent licensing inspection. Friday there isn't anything going on (at least yet!). Saturday the little man and I have our young naturalists program and then he & I can spend some mother & son time together.
Each year, we are asked to give up something for Lent, and this year I am giving up soda. Its a big deal for me because I really, really love my regular cokes. Its my real guilty pleasure. And I am going to kick it up a notch this year too-with giving up my starbucks obsession. I also am going to try to spend 40 days working on my spiritual relationship. Every year, I use the book, the Purpose Driven Life, to help on my spiritual path. I also really am going to try to pray morning and evening prayer every day. I usually get morning prayer in, its the evening prayer thats so hard for me.
But I am going to make a concerted effort!
