One of my pet causes is the March of Dimes, and I serve on a family resource committee. I had some of my fellow committee members over last night for a craft night to make bunny photo frames for the NICU babies for Easter. It was a lot of fun and quite productive.
One of the things that came up was that I seem to juggle life really well. I know that I try to do that, but it doesn't always happen. I am a definate type A personality and I like to get things done right away. I used to be a procrastinator-and had been for a long time, and then one morning I had a shower epiphany that I need to get on top of things. There were some things that I had started missing out on because I had forgotten or hadn't gotten organized enough to get it done.
Basically, there was discussion on being superwoman. I can't speak for other people but I can speak for what works for me.
I will admit that I am a compulsive planner, and I need to have a framework to work with in. One thing that helps me keep my sanity is I put together my clothes for the week on either Saturday or Sunday. This way, in the morning I just have to go to the closet and everything is right there (including accessories, so its a no brainer). I also have stuff planned out if there is something going on in the evening so I am comfy too.
My second secret of life is twofold. I have a master to do list, where I can keep track of things that need to get done. I have a monthly one (like buying AND mailing presents) as well as the ongoing one of everything that needs to get done eventually. The other thing is being chained to my calendar. If I don't write it down, I will never remember. I can't rely on my memory all the time.
My other big secret is I take mommy time on a regular basis. I do my yoga daily dozen every day. I try to workout daily. When I come home after work, I take 15 or 20 minutes to decompress & meditate. (sometimes I fall asleep, but there is something so refreshing about it)I spend time doing things I love, too. I read at least a book a week. I take about 15 or 20 minutes at lunch time most days to catch up on my scrapbooking. I try to get at least 7 hours of sleep every night. I am in the process of eating healthier more consistently.
Another big thing that I do is my daily cleaning. I am still working on the clutter that seems to surround me, but it is getting better. I "clean" both bathrooms daily (wipe down the counters, sinks and toilets as well as the shower)as well as the kitchen. I swifter the tile floors as well as run around the main level with the feather duster. I try to be more consistent with deeper cleaning, but that's a little lower priority right now. First, I've got to pare down the junk that's floating around my house. Then I can focus on the other stuff.
Its taken almost 40 years to get to this point, and I can actually say that I am quite content to where my life is right now.
This morning I have an eye doctor appointment (new glasses yay!). Have to go to Hobby Lobby to get stuff for our class auction basket. Grocery shopping. Rest. Spend time with my family (my favorite thing of all!)Life truly is good.
