Things that Go Bump

Its very scary to think that someone's life could end by a bump on the noggin. That's the way its looking for actress Natasha Richardson. She fell while skiing with her kids (how horrible it must be for them) and is now probably dying in a NYC hospital. And the big man wonders why I was such a basket case when the little man fell a few weeks ago.
I was in the shower, Big Man was downstairs and Grand-mah was watching him. Little Man was doing his best kangaroo impression on the sofa, and boom! he went into the fireplace mantle and got a nasty goose egg on the side of his head. Luckily he cried immediately, which is the appropriate response (you want the kiddo to cry and scream bloody murder). All those years I worked in the ED did pay off somehow. He did fall asleep for a few hours and had a major headache. By the end of the week he still didn't feel quite right and was quite onery, so I called his doctor and she suggested we bring him into the ED (the one where I used to work) He was fine and the doctor gave his blessing and out into the snow we went.
We were lucky.
Nastasha Richardson-and coincidentally, the sister of someone my husband works with, who fell down a flight of stairs over the weekend and is in a coma and on life support (also from hitting her head)-not so much.
I can not imagine what those poor little boys are going through. One minute you're skiing and having a great time with your mother, the next she is being declared brain dead. Right before their eyes more than likely. The scars that they are going to have to deal with...my prayers are with them. No child should have to watch their parents die before them.
