Path of Thorns

I had the privilige of helping with Kindergarten Assessment tonight at school. Those kids are so stinking cute! Its hard to believe that just a few short years ago, that was my little man. Basically I got to sit at a table and color with the kiddos, talking to them, and keeping them entertained while they were waiting to go to the next station. I had a chance to catch up with Mrs. B who was the little man's aide in kindergarten (he doesn't need an aide anymore! I do give her a lot of credit for helping him with the transition). While I was helping out at school, the Big Man was on playground duty for the neighborhood kids (our yard being the playground). I think it was exhausting for him-especially since he was exhausted to begin with. Wait until he finds out that I have my book group on Thursday night...
I got the kitchen cleaned up when I got home tonight while the little man was taking his bath. I got the cabinets and appliances polished and the counters cleaned off. It makes me smile to see a clean kitchen. Tomorrow will be the bedrooms (including clean sheets). I am really digging this one room a day thing-its helping keep the house clean and tidy, and I am killing myself on the weekend. I do have some errands to run this week (including the post office-I am a little late in mailing a gift to my niece)but other wise, I am in good shape.
Right now I'm watching UFO's & the Bible (something odd on the history channel)and flipping back & forth with the yankees game. The Mets won, but we didn't get the game tonight, so it didn't matter. This is the first year since we've lived here that we didn't get the baseball package so we could watch our teams. I have to admit that I do miss the option of watching baseball, but what has worked out in my favor is the fact that I am not tied to the tv at night and can actually get things done. I have to admit that I am not really a tv fan, to me its great background noise. I like my music more, but for some reason I don't listen to it as much at home (all day long at work, different story-reminds me I need to charge my ipod)It seems I am getting more done at night (and in the mornings too) without the tv on.
This morning I tried something for the first time in a long time-pilates. Right now pilates=pain. I didn't realize how out of shape I was until I seriously got back into working out again. And boy, am I ever! I am really struggling with the whole exercise thing-its really kicking me in my rear. I know its something that I need to do for me (and my family)but I am already feeling the rebellion in me welling up.
So I am taking a deep breath, and drinking my herbal tea. I'm blogging tonight, so I will have more time in the morning to hit the treadmill and bowflex. I am hoping the rain holds off for one more day so I can get out to the garden after dinner. I still have some seeds to plant and I am eager to do it!
I also need to start trying to figure out what I am going to plant in front of the house. We lost two big bushes to powdery mildew last year, and they need to come out. I also am thinking about planting some annuals out there in a bed, but I haven't really thought that out too much. Its almost time for my flower pots to get going-I love doing a display with geraniums and some spikes and ivy-its very geometric and pretty. And there are the hanging baskets-impatients and pansies, thank you very much. The other trouble spot is the side of the house. It gets full sun all summer long, and what I've planted there so far has either burned up or just died, other than my lillies. I can do more lillies, and maybe some greenery to fill in. I am thinking something like rhodendedrons-big, full and flowering. I guess its pretty evident that I love flowers and I love playing in the dirt.
But in order to do all that, I need to do my nightly daily dozen yoga asanas to stretch my body out, finish my herbal tea, do my nightly devotions and get some sleep. Its mommy time I think.
