Thanks to Pandora, I found a bunch of new songs that I love.
One is Bubble Toes by Jack Johnson (http://jackjohnsonmusic.com/music/detail/en_concert/). Its got this hippy, trippy vibe and its impossible to not be happy listening to this song. (that la-de-dah-dup-dah makes want to sing along). It almost reminds me of Phish and the Dead in my younger days.
Another is New Soul by Yael Naim (http://www.yaelweb.com/en/music). Another song that it is impossible to be sad and listen to.
Then there's Closing Time, by Semisonic. It's a pretty old song, and it has now been added to the trifecta of drinking songs: Hey Bartender by Rehab and Ball and Chain by Social Distortion. Another reason why drinking is bad for you.
Yet another old song is "This Love" by Maroon 5. I have to admit that I did like it when it came out about 6 years ago, and then I forgot about it. Thanks to Pandora, I couldn't get it out of my head all week.
If we had not found Come What May as our wedding song, a close second was Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls. There's just something romantic about it to me.
A few years ago, the Big Man loved the song "Drops of Jupiter" by Train. He's not one to sit and watch the Grammys, but he stopped and watched their performance of that song way back when. Another forgotten gem. And one that I can't stop listening to.
I have to admit that I am a huge fan of female singer songwriters like Sarah McLachlan and Tori Amos. Ingrid Michaelson falls into that Lillith Fair category, and her song "Far Away" is an upbeat entry into that category. Its a frothy little concotion.
The last entry in this category is Bent by Matchbox 20. I saw them in concert with the Princess years ago, when they were at the height of their fame. I really wanted to go because Everclear was the opening act, and they are one of my all time favorite bands. I have to admit that I was impressed with Matchbox 20's live show, and Bent was the single they were touring behind. I actually had not heard that song in literally years, and when I heard it on Pandora the other day, it was a pleasant suprise. There is one of those soaring choruses that just reel you in, hook line and sinker.
Its very exciting to hear new (and forgotten) music, and it does make the day go much faster. I like upbeat music to get through the day, whether at work, driving in the car or doing housework (thank goodness for Ipods)so now I have some new additions to what I've been listening to.
Also recommended: the new Regina Spektor album Far. Honestly, I have not listened to the whole CD yet, but from what I've heard, its awesome. She has a quirky off-beatness to her, and its really evident on this album.
I haven't heard the new Sarah McLachlan, but I think I might listen to the stream on her webpage this weekend. Heck, we all know I am going to buy it anyway....
