Spirit in the Sky

At the risk of sounding like a kook, I'm going to put this out there:

Sometimes I get guided by a supernatural being.

I only say sometimes, because I don't always listen.

I'm a commited Christian, and there's no shame in my game with that. The Holy Spirit has been popping in & out of my life since I was a child, and looking back on a lot of events, I know that it was the Spirit's prodding that caused me to experience life that I would not have necessarily done so otherwise.

Looking back, it was the Spirit that set up a chain of events so fantastic that only a maniacal genius could have created. I was a teen living in Utah who was struggling to fit in. I was not Mormon, and I was quirky, so I had 2 strikes right there. I was fortunate that by a series of odd coincidences, I met a group of people who would be so profoundly influential on my life, even 30+ years later.

Thanks to them, I got to experience the outdoors and a whole different lifestyle experience. I learned how to do archery, a love I've passed onto my own son. I learned to shoot in target practice. I hiked, exploring canyons and mountain meadows. I learned to ride horses, and even got pretty good at it.

One mom took me under her wing and attempted to school me in the domestic arts. I learned how to bake bread and can. Sewing and crafts soon became a passion, and I realized I had multiple talents.

I was in the right place at the right time. This has been the theme throughout my life. I met someone through a mutual friend who later introduced me to my husband. This initial meeting almost didn't happen because I didn't want to go out that night, but something prompted me to.

Life changing.

It set into motion some pretty rad circumstances that led me to here.

The Spirit whispers like the wind to me. I get these crazy ideas, promptings if you will, to do things. Sometimes it's to call or email someone, other times it's to bring something to someone. Even weirder it's for me to show up somewhere. As I've gotten older, and grown more in my faith, I've realized that these little God breezes are always for my benefit. I just have to trust. So far, nothing lethal and nothing illegal, so I think we're doing good.

My most recent prompting was just last week. I had this nagging to go to a church in my neighborhood. I drive past it all the time and never gave it a second thought for the last decade. Until last week. It popped into my head, I really should check them out.

Then I pushed that thought out of my head.
Until it kept popping back up. A Facebook friend shared a post from the pastor, totally random right? The next day, I was going past it on my way to run errands, and for some reason it was three cars deep waiting to turn on the street next to it. A Google search accidentally led me to their website in a very round about way...i couldn't ignore it anymore, and this past Sunday I went. It was a message I needed to hear right then and my cup was filled.

“The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.”
