Breakfast

I have a confession to make-I was never a breakfast eater growing up. I remember in kindergarten having to bring in what you ate for breakfast, then we did a lesson on a healthy, nutritious breakfast. I brought in toast, because that was what I ate.

Then there was a place set for each of us, and I was stunned. There was toast, fruit and juice plus cereal. I definitely did not eat that much in the morning!
As I got older, I began to skip breakfast because I could “save the calories”.  It wasn’t until I was in my 30’s and a mom that I realized the importance of a healthy breakfast. During the week, my son has cereal

and I have either cereal

or oatmeal myself.

He likes his chocolate milk,

and I have either coffee or juice.

I have fruit

and toast, and I am not hungry until lunchtime.

On the weekends, we have special breakfasts. Saturdays are waffle days

 or cinnamon rolls,

and then on Sundays we have something special like quiche, egg bake or

 overnight French toast.
Quiche Lorraine
1 pie crust
6 eggs, beaten
6 strips turkey bacon, cooked
1 pkg silken tofu or 2 c heavy cream
1 c shreded cheese (I usually use either swiss or monterey jack)

Preheat oven to 375.
Blind bake crust for 10 minutes, let cool. mix ingredients together. pour into pie shell. bake for 35 minutes.

Black Coffee In Bed

Cleaning the bedroom is my least favorite household chore. I hate it! Especially our bedroom, since it seems to be such a dumping ground for stuff. Both my husband & I empty pockets, etc onto the dresser, and then nothing happens to it, so the stuff piles up. Same with the nightstands. I couldn’t tell you why there is fish stuff on my husband’s side of the bed, especially since we no longer have fish…but I digress. Basically, stuff winds up in the bedrooms when there aren’t any other homes for it.

Other than that issue, my daily bedroom cleaning focuses on making the bed, and putting the dirty laundry up to wash. I feather dust the furniture and that’s about it.

Weekly, I change the sheets and polish the furniture. We also have ceiling fans in each of the bedrooms, so I have to dust them. I’ve tried various things to repel dust on there and it doesn’t seem to work. I am open all sorts of ideas!

Once a month, I wash our comforters, vacuum under the bed and lemon oil the furniture and woodwork.

Quarterly, I take down the drapes and wash them.

Working it Out Weekend fathers day weekend

Photobucket
Its time for the weekly round up of crafty greatness!

My whole family are baseball fanatics,

 even our dog,

so this baseball quilt is really awesome!

This dress makeover is so cute and the instructions are very well done.

We spend so much time at the pool in the summer. This looks like a quick, easy project that we all can love!

I have an issue with a bunch of skirts that I love...the shortness worked about 5 years ago, but now that I am in mommy mode, and the fact that I am in my 40's with 40ish knobby knees, I love this idea

I love this idea...and I saw pre-smocked fabric at Walmart that could make
a perfect summer dress
Here's another skirt tutorial that I already have the fabric for
I may just have to spend time sewing!

Thanks to all these crafting rock stars for sharing their creations. Go visit their sites & tell them how awesome they are :)

in the closet

In the Closet

I love fashion and clothes. It’s a big part of my life. My closet reflects that. As time goes on, I have been trying to figure out a way to manage my closet and keep it organized. What I have found that works for me, is I put together my outfits for the week every weekend: everything-lingerie, accessories, etc. It makes getting ready in the morning so much easier. I have 2 sets of outfits: work and play.

In order to do this, I have to keep my closet organized. I have my shoes in plastic shoeboxes on the floor. I now have my scarves and purses in baskets on the shelves in there, so I can see what I have and what goes with what. It makes a huge difference rather than the closet exploding on me.

The closet is divided into quadrants: casual and professional; summer and winter. There is some overlap between the 4, but its ok because I can usually find what I am looking for. It also has allowed me to see what I own, and make good use of it.

Its allowed me to go from fashion failure to a rock star diva.

Under my Thumb

This awesome logo is from here

Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Eternal God Triune,

when will your servants learn?

We grow so out of tune,

sometimes we don't discern

on everything: Your fingerprint!

On everyone: Your fingerprint!

O Abba, what could seal

the love poured out from you

onto the potters wheel?

For we have not been true:

So smudged on us: Your fingerprint!

So faint on us: Your fingerprint!

Son of God, Living Word,

you gave us free by grace

what we could not afford.

In you we found God's face.

On you we saw: God's fingerprint!

Clearly we saw: God's fingerprint!

God's Spirit, make us one.

Collect your broken shards,

we're useless on our own!

Create then your collage;

Rebuild again: Your fingerprint!

Make clear on us: Your fingerprint!

Now make us bold to go

for you into the world,

and eagerly make known

the holy Triune Lord.

Good News we share: Your fingerprint!

Good deeds we do: Your fingerprint!

Game: where in the world is the disciple?

How to play:

World map

Facts about different countries on index cards

One person to be the host

The host asks questions about the particular country

(For example: Australia-it’s a giant island and a continent; the great barrier reef is there; its where you find koalas and kangaroos)

Everyone else takes turns guessing the country. When someone guesses it right, the country gets circled on the map and that person becomes the host.

how you live

Its yet another Wednesday in my world, and I am not very happy about it at all. I do not like Wednesdays as much as others do not like Mondays.

google images, garfield is always funny

Its a struggle of a day for me, sometimes hanging by a thread, and while I try to perk things up, its very hard. I think the weather has a lot to do with it.

from a friend of mine, not sure where they got it
I feel like I am living in Seattle, with all the rain and gloomy weather we have had lately.
There always the good, the bad and the ugly.

thank you imdb
Starting with the bad, I have fallen into a lazy pattern again. I am not working out like I was, and I can feel it. I do my morning yoga practice, but not much else. I admit I have been spending way too much time on the computer,

didn't know teddy bears could surf!
and not enough time on the treadmill. I also have not been overly holly homemaker as I should, just because  I have, ahem, been enjoying being lazy.

from an email I got the other day
The ugly? Negative thought patterns. I have recognized when I start falling into the grip of them and I am trying to reverse it. I know a lot of people that I can not avoid who are just completely down on the world, and it shows.

The problem is when you are absorbing like a sponge all this gunk from the people around you.

I have this printed out & hanging in my office. such truth!

Its unfortunate that some people just see the world as dark, and will never see the light. While I am not able to completely avoid these folks, which is what I would prefer, I can limit my contact.

I love this shirt!
The good?? There is a lot of greatness in my life. My son has conquered a fear in gymnastics.
parallel bars

He has stopped being afraid to try something new and is trusting his coach more.

learning to do a front handspring
I was able to go deeper into triangle pose in yoga class.

I've had good hair days despite the humidity.
I am in love with the bathing suit I used to hate, before I shifted perspective on it.

aren't these ADORABLE???
It helps since we spend so much time at the pool lately.

drake springs, my favorite pool
I've been able to connect on a deeper level with my son, who has just blossomed in the last few weeks. He is growing up way too fast it seems.

I've also reconnected with a group of friends that I had lost touch with over the years.

This little project of mine has been taking off lately, with positive results. Thank you!
